Opportunity at hand to play Columbine CC as Colorado Golf Hall of Fame Tournament set for May 16 at elite Colorado facility
By Colorado Golf Journal – 3/1/2022
For many golfers, opportunities to play at courses that have hosted major championships and tour events don’t present themselves often.
But this spring, there’s a chance to tee it up at one of the two clubs in Colorado that have been sites of men’s Grand Slam events.
On Monday, May 16, Columbine Country Club in Columbine Valley will host the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame Tournament, an 18-hole event that benefits the Hall, which will turn 50 years old in 2023. Columbine has an illustrious history of being the site of big-time events, including the 1967 PGA Championship and five LPGA Tour events (the 1977 National Jewish Hospital Open and the 1980 through ’83 Columbia Savings Classic).

The CGHOF Tournament on May 16 will feature a 10 a.m. shotgun start, with an on-course lunch and a post-round awards reception. The tournament competition will be one low gross combined with one low net for each group.
The cost for the tournament will be $375 per person ($1,500 per foursome). The fee benefits the Hall of Fame, which honors people who have made a profound impact on Colorado golf. The organization also promotes the future of the game while recognizing achievement and preserving Colorado’s golf history.
The Hall of Fame is also seeking event sponsors on a number of levels. For sponsorship opportunities, please contact CGHOF board of director member Gary Potter at garytpotter59@gmail.com
Columbine also will host the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame induction dinner this year, on Aug. 28, when Jim Engh, Harold “Skeeter” Sommers and Gary Baines will be enshrined. Over the last half-century, 147 people have been voted into the Hall of Fame.
