Locals Chris Korte, Zahkai Brown, Jake Staiano and Gunner Wiebe punch tickets to stage 2 of Korn Ferry Tour Q-school
By Gary Baines – 9/23/2022
Three former CGA Players of the Year, along with another prominent golfer who grew up in Colorado, landed spots in the second stage of Korn Ferry Tour Q-school on Friday.
Gunner Wiebe (the CGA POY in 2010), Zahkai Brown of Golden (2011) and Jake Staiano of Englewood (2017) joined Chris Korte of Littleton in advancing from a stage 1 tournament in Maricopa, Ariz.
With the top 25 finishers and ties earning stage 2 berths, Korte tied for seventh place in the 77-man field (15 under par), while Brown was 11th (14 under), and Staiano and Wiebe were 19th (11 under). Korte played his college golf at the University of Denver, Brown and Staiano at Colorado State, and Wiebe at the University of San Diego.
Last week, another player with strong Colorado ties — former University of Northern Colorado golfer Joshua Matz — punched his ticket to stage 2 at a stage 1 tournament in Palm Desert, Calif.

Three more stage 1 tournaments are scheduled for next week.
Second-stage tournaments will be held Oct. 11-14 and Oct. 18-21, with the final stage scheduled for Nov. 4-7 in Savannah, Ga.
Players who make it to the final stage are assured at least conditional status on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2023.
