Coloradans AJ Ott, Griffin Barela and Jackson Solem, along with former DU golfer Chris Gilman, are latest locals to advance to stage 2 of Korn Ferry Tour Q-school

By Gary Baines – 9/30/2022

Three more Coloradans, plus a Californian who played his college golf at the University of Denver, on Friday added their names to the locals who have earned spots into the second stage of Korn Ferry Tour qualifying.

Advancing to stage 2 were AJ Ott of Fort Collins, Griffin Barela of Lakewood, Jackson Solem of Longmont and former DU golfer Chris Gilman. Ott, the 2018 CGA Player of the Year, played his college golf at Colorado State. Barela, the 2021 CGA Amateur champ, was at Wisconsin and Solem at DU.

With the top 25 finishers and ties moving on from a stage 1 event in Lincoln, Neb., Ott finished ninth at 4-under-par 280, while Barela was 20th at 1-under 283 and Solem advanced on the number at even-par 284, good for 24th place.

Gilman was the best of the bunch, placing fourth at 7-under 277.

Ott, Barela, Solem and Gilman join previous stage 2 qualifiers with strong Colorado connections such as Chris Korte, Zahkai Brown, Jake Staiano, Gunner Wiebe and former University of Northern Colorado golfer Joshua Matz.

Second-stage tournaments will be held Oct. 11-14 and Oct. 18-21, with the final stage scheduled for Nov. 4-7 in Savannah, Ga.

Players who make it to the final stage are assured at least conditional status on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2023.
