Acing the Test

Hole-in-one sparks CSU’s Andrea Bergsdottir to her first individual college victory

Winning a golf tournament is a highlight under any circumstances, but when you do it with a hole-in-one — and you prevail by two strokes — that’s a little extra special.

Just ask Colorado State golfer Andrea Bergsdottir.

The fifth-year player from Sweden aced the 140-yard 15th hole — her sixth hole of the second round — with a 9-iron, then went on to capture the title in the spring-season-opening Collegiate Invitational that concluded on Saturday in Guadalajara, Mexico.

It was Bergsdottir’s first individual college victory. But it marks the second individual win of the season by a CSU women’s golfer as Sofia Torres claimed the title in the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in September in Fort Collins.

Bergsdottir went 71-70-71 for a 4-under-par total in Mexico. She played her final seven holes in 4 under par to surge to the top of the leaderboard. Overall for the tournamant, she managed one eagle (the ace), nine birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey.

All five of Bergsdottir’s starts this season have led to top-15 finishes, and she has three top-10s to her credit in the 2023-24 campaign.

As a team, CSU placed fifth out of 12 schools on Saturday.
