Opponent’s long final-hole eagle leaves former Colorado School of Mines golfer George Markham with another runner-up finish on PGA Tour Americas

George Markham hasn’t played a lot of tournaments on PGA Tour Americas (17),  but that hasn’t kept the former Colorado School of Mines golfer from coming oh so close to victory on more than one occasion in the last nine months.

The 27-year-old left-hander toyed with a win again on Sunday at the 70th ECP Brazil Open in Rio de Janeiro before falling a shot shy of the top spot. As it was, he finished the solo runner-up when fellow American Maxwell Moldovan eagled the final hole from 50 feet.

It marked Markham’s second runner-up finish on PGA Tour Americas since last summer as he tied for second place in July at the Commissionaires Ottawa Open.

This time, Markham’s showing was worth $24,300. 

The former Oredigger posted rounds of 63-67-68-69 for a 17-under-par total as he birdied his last two holes and three of the last four while paired with Moldovan — a former Ohio State golfer — at the 2016 Rio Olympic course.

Markham finished the week in Brazil with an eagle, 21 birdies and six bogeys.
