Doubling Up

Lakewood Country Club, site of many historic events in Colorado golf, set to host both Colorado Golf Hall of Fame tournament and induction dinner — on May 18 and Aug. 30, respectively

It seems altogether fitting that one of the oldest golf courses and country clubs in Colorado will double up in hosting events hosted by the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame, a major player in helping preserve the history of golf in the state.

Lakewood Country Club, founded in 1908 as Colorado Golf Club, has been a proud fixture just west of Denver for almost 120 years. And in 2026, it will be the site not only of the Hall of Fame’s golf tournament, but of its induction dinner.

The tournament was previously announced for Monday, May 18 (10 a.m. shotgun start) at LCC. And now the induction dinner is set for Sunday, Aug. 30 (5:30 p.m.) at the club at 6800 W. 10th Ave., in Lakewood. 

Two prominent people will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Aug. 30 — former Lakewood CC member Ella McLaughlin and Kent Denver graduate and winner of the PGA Tour’s 2014 Phoenix Open Kevin Stadler. Dozens of current and former Lakewood CC members are Colorado Golf Hall of Fame inductees, with McLaughlin — the late co-founder of the CWGA in 1916 and an early-1900s standout player — becoming the newest of the bunch. Ella’s husband, 2003 CGHOF inductee Mac McLaughlin, was a co-founder of Lakewood CC.

Over the years, besides hosting more than 40 CGA and CWGA open-age major state amateur championships, Lakewood Country Club has been the site of two LPGA Tour events (the 1955 Mile High Open and the 1956 Denver Open), two USGA championships (the 1957 U.S. Girls’ Junior and the the 1965 U.S. Women’s Amateur) and the 1952 Trans-Miss Amateur.

The cost to play in the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame’s annual tournament on May 18 is $450 per person or $1,800 for a foursome. For more information or to register for the event, CLICK HERE. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

In conjunction with the tournament — but held separately, primarily in May — the Hall of Fame will conduct an auction featuring many golf-related items and rounds, along with other desirables. The tournament and the auction will benefit the non-profit Hall of Fame and its new museum, located at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. The Broadmoor is now offering tours of the museum to its hotel guests. Broadmoor visitors can also peruse the museum — free of charge — on a self-guided basis.
