Colorado Mesa men rally to win RMAC title for first time; CSU Pueblo women claim 4th straight RMAC crown and 6th team victory of season

For the first time in the post-Covid era, there’s a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men’s golf team champion other than Colorado Christian University or CSU Pueblo.
Colorado Mesa University, based in Grand Junction, claimed its first conference title since the school added intercollegiate men’s golf in the fall of 2009. The Mavericks, coached by Scott Sullivan, prevailed by two on Tuesday in Boulder City, Nev., over 36-hole leader Colorado School of Mines and CSU Pueblo. Defending champion Colorado Christian was fourth, three back of CMU.
The tournament ended on a very windy note — so windy that the event was reduced from 54 to 45 holes because gusts were moving balls on the greens.
It was decided before the third round began that due to very high winds in the forecast, Tuesday was split into two separate stipulated rounds of nine holes, per USGA rules.
Every team completed nine holes — and some 18 — on Tuesday before play was halted. CMU finished at 12 under par for 45 holes, playing Tuesday’s front nine in even par. Mines and CSU Pueblo checked in at 10 under, and Colorado Christian at 9 under. Mesa came into the final day trailing by seven.

CCU won the 2024 and ’25 RMAC titles en route to claiming the 2024 national championship and placing second last year. CSU Pueblo captured the RMAC crowns every year from 2021 through ’23.
With Tuesday’s win, Colorado Mesa lands an automatic berth into the NCAA Division II regionals, set for May 7-9 in Stockton, Calif. With three team victories this season, CMU is ranked No. 22 nationally in DII men’s golf.
Individually, CCU junior Bradley Mulder, from Spokane, Wash., earned the victory by finishing at 8 under par for 45 holes. Liam Allan of Mines and Leo Lavalle from Colorado Mesa shared second place at 7 under.
Using a new format this year, each school fielded six players, with the top four each day counting toward the team total.

— CSU Pueblo Women Rule Again: Meanwhile, also in Boulder City, the same situation applied, with the tournament reduced from 54 to 45 holes. CSU Pueblo claimed its fourth consecutive women’s RMAC golf team title and earned its sixth team victory of the season.
The ThunderWolves, ranked No. 28 in the nation in women’s Division II, struggled in their final round amid the windy conditions (18 over par) but still prevailed by six strokes over runners-up Colorado Christian University and Westminster (Utah).
With that. CSU Pueblo, guided by interim coach John Wristen, earned an automatic berth into an NCAA regional it will host at Pueblo Country Club May 4-6. The full fields for regionals will be announced on Sunday.
CSU Pueblo has competed in 10 tournaments so far this season, winning more than half of them (six).
The ThunderWolves put four golfers in the top 8 individually in the 58-player field — Thale Victoria Estensen (fourth place), Lisa Ekberg and Freya Constable (tie for fifth) and Yale Lee (eighth). Sophomore Ashley Lam of Westminster landed the RMAC individual title for the second straight year, finishing at 1 over par for 45 holes.
