Former CU golfers Kirsty Hodgkins-Redner and Erin Houtsma land spots in match play at U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur

Two former University of Colorado golfers who both had previously made match play at the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur will be back for more.

Kirsty Hodgkins-Redner of Lafayette and Erin Houtsma of Denver finished inside the necessary top 64 on Sunday in the stroke-play portion of the national championship for competitors 25 and older. That means both punched tickets into Monday’s match play round of 64 at Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, N.J.

Hodgkins-Redner, who advanced to the round of 32 at the 2025 Women’s Mid-Am, shot rounds of 72-76 for an 8-over-par total. 

Hogkins-Redner won the 2020 CGA Women’s Match Play and the 2025 CGA Women’s Mid-Amateur. Her younger sister, Amy Hodgkins, went to to the round of 64 at the U.S. Women’s Amateur this year after capturing the 2026 CGA Women’s Amateur title.

Houtsma, winner of the 2005 Colorado Women’s Open as a pro and the 2020, ’22 and ’26 CGA Women’s Mid-Amateur, recorded scores of 79-72 for an 11-over-par total in New Jersey.

Houtsma advanced to the match play round of 16 at the 2019 U.S. Women’s Mid-Am, the round of 64 in 2021 and the round of 32 in 2023.

Meanwhile in the U.S. Senior Amateur in Lutherville, Md., Ed Kerr of Windsor has a chance to make match play. But to do so, he’ll have to be one of the three players who advances out of a 13-man playoff — on Monday morning — that includes the competitors who finished at 11 over par for two rounds. Kerr went 76-75 in the two rounds of stroke play.

(Aug. 31 Update: Kerr carded a par then a bogey in the playoff on Monday and failed to earn one of the last three spots into match play.)
